MAMA

Santiago said "mama" when he was eating his dinner tonight! It almost made me cry!! Here's the cutie pie in the bathtub after getting messy at dinner time.

Santiago is quite the talker and I think he is going to have lots to say whenever he starts speaking real words all the time. He must get that from his talkative Daddy! Here's Daddy and Santi playing their glasses game with burnt orange longhorn glasses. Santiago loves to take glasses off and on your face.

Great Saturday

Today was a beautiful day! The weather was nice, it was a great fall day and I wish every day could be Saturday. See how happy we are!Today was UT game day again and as you can see we all wore our burnt orange today. We should have taken a family picture - we will have to do that next weekend! We went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch today and for the game but Santiago and I only stayed for a short while because I needed to get him home for his afternoon nap. I also had to pick Roxie up from the groomers. She got a really short haircut but she loves it this way! On the way home from the groomers, I used my cell phone camera to take a picture of Santiago playing with his feet in the car. Instead of toys in the car, he has been enjoying his toes and feet! Don't worry I took these pictures when I was stopped in my driveway - not driving down the road!

Hector burnt his fingers tonight making delicious chicken flautas so he was using a bag of frozen corn to help ease the pain. Santiago enjoyed sucking on the cold bag while Daddy was trying to feel better. His little face was all red when we finally made him stop because it was so cold.
Yum Frozen Corn!

Big Boy Toys

Bring on the big boy toys! Santiago had fun this weekend playing with his first truck - a Hummer! I guess we are going to need to find him some more toys for boys. Santi already told me he hopes Santa brings him a Radio Flyer Wagon for Christmas. I told him he will have to be a good boy for the rest of the year!I bought some new sippy cups this weekend and no handles seems to work much better for Santiago. He can grab this cup much easier and tilt it to get a drink. This one also has a soft no spill spout and I think he enjoys biting down and sucking on this much better now with his two teeth. That's right - he now has his two bottom teeth poking through his gums!

When Daddy's away....

Momma and Santi will play! (and miss him of course) Hector went with our friend Anthony today to watch the Texas Longhorns beat Texas Tech in Austin. So while he was away, Santiago and I had fun together. We started off by taking a 2 hour nap together when Hector was leaving this morning around 10:30. When we woke up, I nursed Santiago and then we changed into our UT clothes and went out to eat at Brother's Pizza. I have never eaten in a restaurant by myself and today since Santi was with me I guess I technically still haven't but it was definitely different than going out to eat with a friend. When we arrived there, I placed my order and then found us a table. I got the highchair covered in the great highchair cover my mom made me and I served Santiago his butternut squash, peas and wheat cereal. Then I ate my food after when it arrived. It was a very enjoyable lunch! After lunch, Santiago and I went to pick a few things up at Target before heading home. When I first sat Santi in the shopping cart he was sitting straight and tall looking all around and talking to people but after just 10 minutes or so he started getting sleepy and just slouched back in the seat and rested his head on the side of the shopping cart cover. He looked so cute just lounging in the seat. This lady couldn't believe he was just relaxing the way he was. He didn't fall asleep but he sure got himself comfortable! He did fall asleep on the car ride home and then slept for a little over an hour once I put him in his crib.

Uncle Bubba aka Travis came over to watch the game with Santiago and me this evening and hang out. Unfortunately, the game was beginning right at Santiago's bath time so he did not get to watch much of the game with us. Thank goodness for DVR! We just put the game on hold until after I bathed Santi and dressed him in his UT jammies. He had to cheer on his Horns even while he was sleeping!

Scootin' and Tootin'

Time is flying by so quickly and it seems that each day gets a little bit busier. I wish I could spend every minute of the day with my two boys but since I have to be a working mom that just isn't possible. Hector and I joke all the time about winning the lottery and how sweet it would be if we could just stay home and play with Santi all day long but we don't even play the lottery! So that's not going to happen! ha! I know I have said it before but the best part of my day is leaving work and getting to pick Santiago up. I can't get home fast enough - I can't wait to hug and kiss him.

Santiago is getting bigger and stronger every day. I'm pretty sure crawling is going to be his next big accomplishment because he is learning how to scoot himself on the floor and roll from place to place. He has begun to stick his little booty straight in the air and inch like an inchworm! If I place him up on his knees, he can balance for a little bit but he hasn't quite figured out how to get himself on his knees. He can push up on his hands, head and feet and move himself around a bit. It's so neat to watch him develop and get stronger. Something that makes me laugh every single time it happens is that Santiago will toot when he is turning over or scooting in one direction. He will look at me after it happens and his facial expression is always priceless. First, it seems like he is saying "Momma whatcha laughing at? That wasn't me!" and then he will smile and laugh with me. It's so STINKIN' cute! ha!

Santiago absolutely loves Roxie. Here they are kissing each other! I think she is going to start loving him more really soon when he starts dropping little bites of food on the floor for her!

With Hector and I both being teachers, we are being extra careful about washing our hands after work. We both need to go get our flu shots and I need to get Santiago one also. There has been several cases of swine flu at Hector's school and one for sure in my grade level at my school. Santi isn't due to go back to his pediatrician until November when he is 9 months old but I think I will call to see if we can come in for a flu shot. Better to be safe then sorry!

7 Months Old

Santiago turned 7 months old about a week ago on Sept. 4th, but life has been super busy so I am just now getting the chance to tell you what he is up to now at 7 months!

  • Weighs about 22 pounds and is 29 inches long.

  • Wears size 3 diapers.

  • Wears 12-18 months clothing.
  • Santiago's first tooth broke through the gums a few days ago on the bottom.

  • Snuggles with me and lays his head on my shoulder when he is acting shy or getting sleepy.

  • Knows when you hide something from him or he drops something. He will lean over and look for it.

  • Laughs when you tickle him or do something silly. He will laugh for a long time when you get him going.

  • Smiles and laughs at me if I sniff his bottom. I know thats gross but its easier than trying to peek in his diaper when he has pants on.

  • Santiago's hair is really getting thicker all over and as you can see in this next picture - it's curly! We hope it stays that way but we aren't so sure it will. Santi almost needs a haircut because it is getting long and coming over his ears.

  • Can roll over both ways now so he is beginning to be mobile!

  • Tries real hard to sit himself up when he is on his back. He pulls up with all his might and I'm sure he will be able to put himself into a sitting position on his own real soon.

  • Eats two solid meals a day and breastmilk 4 times a day. Loves sweet potatoes, butternut squash, avocado, banana and his cereals. He has also tried peaches, plums, applesauce, zucchini, yellow squash, green beans, and peas. He isn't loving any of those just yet.

  • Pretend gags when he doesn't like something - it's hilarious! But if I keep telling him it's yummy he will eat more!

  • Loves to move both his hands at the same time like he is waving over and over again so we are trying to get him to learn how to wave to us.

  • Loves Roxie and Jager and any other dog he can see.

  • Loves to be outside and watch cars go by on Grandma and Grandpa's front porch. Grandma Linda tells him what color the cars are that pass.

  • Enjoys it when you show him things and tell him what they are.

  • Loves to look at himself in the mirror especially when I am fixing his hair.

  • Still loves his bath time and can sit up in the bath now without scaring me to death.

  • Watches cartoons occasionally while I get ready in the morning for work - he likes Special Agent Oso on Disney.

  • When sitting on the floor, he will reach and fall onto his stomach and then roll over without scaring himself. It used to scare him when he fell over.

  • Speaking of getting scared - Daddy and Grandpa yelled at the football game today and made Santi cry because it startled him.

  • Santiago has been fighting his first cold for the last few days. He has had a lot of congestion that has turned a stuffy nose into a runny nose. He fights me when I use the booger sucker on him but once I get the tube in his nose he smiles at me and lets me do it. I guess he knows that I am helping him get all the junk out.

  • Since Santi has had this cold, he has been sleeping with his head on a pillow like a big boy.

  • We think Santi is going to have a deep voice - he grunts, growls and makes his sounds in a deep voice! But he can also give you a nice squeal too!Santiago is growing and changing so fast and he is absolutely the best baby ever. We love him so so much! Sometimes I get sad that he is growing so quickly and it makes me get teary eyed! He is a very smart little boy and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for him.

Labor Day Weekend

We had a wonderful three day Labor Day Weekend full of fun times and lots of family at the lakehouse. The lakehouse has got to be one of my favorite places to go because it is so relaxing and it is just a great meeting place for our family since we live all over the state of Texas. Grandma Pebble came with my mom and dad, Allison, Tim and my favorite niece Blake came, along with Travis for the entire weekend. My uncle Kevin, Uncle Scott and cousin Reagan, her hubby Jeff and their sweet daughter Reichly also came for Saturday and Sunday.
It was the first time for cousins Santiago, Blake and Reichly to meet each other. Reichly is 14 months old, Santi 7 months and Blake almost 6 months old. As you can see in the next few pictures, Santiago looks almost the same age as Reichly. He outweighs her by 3 pounds and is half her age! Reichly is such a cutie pie and sweet girl. She barely made a peep except when she was giggling while her momma chased her around the house. Reichly, Santiago and Blake shared their toys :)
Here's grandma Pebble with Santiago on the porch at the lake. We sat out here a lot this weekend relaxing in the beautiful weather. The lake is extremely low so we weren't able to play in the boat or on the waverunners. We rode the "hackysacks" a little - (kayaks) and my dad and Travis caught a few fish. Everyone mostly just hung out, ate a lot of yummy food and played bean bag toss.

Here's Reagan and Santiago
Blake loved Santiago's curly hair! Grandma sat Blake on top of Santi's back while he was playing on his tummy. I'm sure they will play like this when they get a little older too!
Here's pretty Blake Michelle! I just love this picture!
Santiago has his very first tooth breaking through on the bottom and he is loving this teether toy that vibrates when he bites down on it. Luckily he hasn't been very fussy or anything while this tooth is making its way. He did a lot of laughing and playing and loving on people this weekend.
Saturday marked the first game of the Longhorn football season and here are my guys all dressed up to watch the game on TV. Hook 'Em!

We had a great weekend and we were all sad to see it end so soon. I wish every weekend could be a 3 day weekend!
