12 Month Check Up

Today I took Santiago for his 12 month well check. As you can see in the picture, he got 4 shots today! OUCH! He also got his finger pricked for blood work. All of his other doctor visits that required shots weren't too bad for Santi because he barely cried. Today was a little different. He still did pretty good but I had to hold him down more today than I ever had before. First I had to sit him in my lap and bear hug him so the doctor could look at his mouth and throat. He hated the popsicle stick on his tongue and was twisting his head back and forth. He didn't cry when she pricked his finger but when it was time for the shots he screamed so loud. But he has been good since we got him home and I hope that he doesn't have any bad side effects from these vaccinations since three of them are live. The doc said that he will most likely run a low grade fever for up to 48 hours after these shots so I gave him some Motrin when we got home. As you can see in the picture, he is a happy boy even after being poked 5 times!

He has met all the developmental milestones except shaking his head to say no. He can do everything else and I think he could probably do that as well if we had taught him how. He seems to be a very fast learner! The doc said that as soon as he learns how to shake his head and say no that we will wish he never learned! ha! One of the questions that the nurse asked me was if he could make the /h/ sound and the /w/ sound. I said he says "wawa" water and sometimes says "hi." As soon as I said that, Santi raised his arm in the air and said "hiiiiiii". It was so funny - right on cue!

Santiago is in the 97% for height and 90% for weight. He is 26 pounds 12 ounces and 32 1/4 inches long.

I forgot to mention in my 12 month post two other words that Santiago can say. When my parents were in town for Santi's birthday party, he said "bubba". My brother and parents spent the night at my house that night and we call my brother "bubba" so Santi got to hear us all saying that alot. Also, Santiago has this cute stuffed lamb that says the "Now I lay my down to sleep" prayer and it says "amen" at the end of the prayer. Santiago said "amen" the other day after the lamb did. TOO CUTE!
