Very Busy....

My wonderful mother has been staying with us for the last two weeks to help take care of Santiago because my mother in law, Linda, had surgery on her foot a week ago Friday.  My mom has been here for the last week of the school year and the first week of summer because I am instructing three days of workshops with another reading specialist friend.  It's been lovely having my mom here in the house because she is helping out with much more than just Santiago! Being 8 and half months pregnant is quite tiring so it is nice to have her love and support around.  Closing out the school year is always quite demanding!

So needless to say, the last few weeks have been extra busy.  My mom has given me and Santiago a head start on potty training and he is doing really well.  I think Santiago has been ready for awhile now but because I knew we wouldn't be able to be consistent in our training I decided to wait until I was finished with work before beginning.  Santiago spends three days a week with his grandparents while Hector and I work, two days a week at Mother's Day Out, and then is home with us of course on nights and weekends.  The MDO program does not help with potty training in Santi's age group so I didn't want him having two days of diapers and the rest of the week potty training.  MDO ended a week before school was out so my mom was able to start the process.  It's fun to see Santiago's face light up when he realizes that he needs to go and makes it to the potty in time.  He is proud of himself and we are proud of him.  He asks me to do the happy dance sometimes when he is successful!  I hope I can successfully get him out of diapers before I have a new baby in them!  That was my initial goal and with my mom's headstart - we may make it after all.
Santiago and his Dam-ma (Grandma) have been going for walks every day, playing at the park, making all kinds of cool things with play doh, playing in the brief rain we got yesterday, drawing, taking naps, cleaning, and reading lots of books together.
